Read the Quran as it was revealed

Revealed in the Cave of Ḥirāʾ on the Mountain of Light (Jabal al-Nūr) near Makkah, before the Prophet ﷺ was commanded to proclaim the message publicly. This was the moment the unseen world broke into human history and the final prophethood began.

Revealed in the earliest Makkan period, soon after al-ʿAlaq, as the leaders of Quraysh began to dismiss the Prophet ﷺ as a madman. God answers by swearing an oath by the pen and declaring that His Messenger stands upon a magnificent character.

Among the earliest Makkan revelations, addressed to the Prophet ﷺ as he lay wrapped in his cloak. It called him to rise in the depth of the night, to steep himself in the Qurʾān, and to prepare for the weight of the message he was about to carry.

The first revelation after the pause (fatrat al-waḥy), calling the Prophet ﷺ from his cloak to "arise and warn." With it, the private preparation of the night gave way to the open, public mission.

The Opening — seven verses placed first in the muṣḥaf and recited in every unit of every prayer. Revealed in the early Makkan years, it is the sūrah the Prophet ﷺ called the greatest in the Qurʾān, and the only one God describes as a conversation between Himself and His servant.

Revealed after the Prophet ﷺ climbed Mount Ṣafā to warn the clans of Quraysh and was answered with a curse by his own uncle, Abū Lahab. Five short verses name that uncle and his wife, and foretell their ruin — a prophecy Abū Lahab lived for years and never disproved.
